Recently, I put up a new default picture on a social networking site. Someone sent me the following message (and I’m paraphrasing):
“Nice profile pic… Do you cheat? Lol… j/k.”
Now mind you, my page is pretty much devoted to my relationship. One doesn’t have to wonder if I’m really happy or not. I guess she wanted to make sure… on the sly, of course.
I admit I was flattered… even if it was a backdoor compliment. My off-the-cuff response went something like this:
“Naw, I love and respect my girl too much for that. She’s everything I want and need in a woman. Besides, cheating always comes back to bite you in the ass…HARD…lol!”
After hitting send, I started thinking about how common and (yes, I dare say) acceptable cheating has become. Some even believe they deserve a pat on the back for choosing not to cheat.
*Really? Why be with someone where you have to make that choice?*
Then, I had a mini-epiphany:
Cheating isn’t even an option for me. So I have no choice to make.
Leigh is more than just my “dream girl”. And I’m more than just her “dream boi”. We each are what the other needs in a life partner. Period. Now why would one risk losing such a beautiful and rare love?
Paul Newman said it best when asked if he was faithful to his wife:
“Why go out for hamburger when you have steak at home.” **
My sentiments exactly.
(**Newman was married to Joanne Woodward for 50 years - until his death.)
